The WMU Foundation provides a variety of scholarships for Southern Baptist missionary kids and individuals preparing for missions service.
Elise Moore from Madison, Mississippi, received one of these scholarships to aid her graduate school journey. She recently graduated with her Master of Arts in Christian Marriage, Family, and Individual Counseling degree at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and will begin the Doctor of Education degree program with an emphasis in Christian Counseling in January 2023. She plans to use her degrees in part to teach, mentor, and supervise other counseling students.
Elise was able to put what she learned to the test in early 2022 when she was approached by her church about going on a short-term mission trip to Warsaw, Poland. “Initially, our trip looked very different,” Elise explained. “Two weeks before we left for Poland, Russia invaded Ukraine. Our trip quickly switched and became much more about caring for missionaries and helping wherever needed.”
Elise helped with babysitting, engaging college students at local universities, and behind-the-scenes work for refugees, among other various tasks. “While I was in Poland, I sensed passions of mine deepening as well as new ideas emerging,” continued Elise. “I am so burdened for not only caring for our teams overseas but also for the people they encounter. My desire to grow and develop as a trauma therapist was only heightened during my time in Warsaw.”
Receiving the Carolyn Weatherford/R. Keith Parks Scholarship from the WMU Foundation helped equip Elise with the tools and knowledge she needed for this mission trip. Your financial support played a small part in the work she was doing, and your gifts help us grant assistance to even more students.
“Thank you for believing in me and investing in me,” concluded Elise. “I am grateful for the ways in which you have impacted my life for the better.”
