WMU and the WMU Foundation established the H.E.A.R.T fund for disaster relief in response to the tragic events that occurred on September 11, 2001.
Because every disaster is different and there are various needs when a crisis arises, the H.E.A.R.T. Fund is intended to help the victims of disasters directly through their state WMU organization. Grant applications must be submitted by the state WMU Executive Director, or state President, if the state does not have an Executive Director.
Previous H.E.A.R.T. Fund grants have gone to feed victims, repair their homes, pay deductibles on churches that have been destroyed, and provided gift cards so victims can purchase much needed items. While this is not a complete list of what H.E.A.R.T. Fund grants can be used for, it is an example of how these funds are to be given directly to those affected. H.E.A.R.T. Fund grants are not intended to support established disaster response teams, secular relief organizations or individuals conducting disaster relief fundraising. Grants from the H.E.A.R.T. Fund allow Southern Baptists to provide direct relief and assistance to disaster victims in the United States and around the world.
Grant applications are only accepted from state WMU Executive Director, or the state President, if the state does not have an Executive Director.
If you are from outside the United States and would like to apply for a H.E.A.R.T. Fund grant please contact Sandy Wisdom-Martin, national WMU Executive Director/Treasurer.
