In early September 2022, on behalf of First Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi, Dr. Cindy Townsend, Minister of WMU and WEM at the church, applied for and received a $25,000 HEART Fund grant to help various local organizations during the water crisis. National WMU provided Pure Water, Pure Love (PWPL) grants to provide three tractor-trailer loads full of water to the community during the crisis, as well.

At their Missions Celebration on October 7, 2022, First Baptist Jackson leadership presented the checks from the HEART Fund to four local organizations to aid in their disaster relief efforts around the city. These ministries included We Will Go, Deliver Me, Mission First, and Soul City Church. There were over 350 people present at the annual missions celebration to hear about the HEART Fund grant and how it will make a difference in the lives of so many people in Jackson, Mississippi.

Because of your generous donations, we have now granted over $147,000 for disaster relief in 2022 alone. Never underestimate the impact your gifts can have!

As a reminder, giving to the HEART Fund means that 100% of your gift will go toward disaster relief efforts, but the WMU Foundation cannot guarantee which disaster it will go toward. This allows us to be able to make grants quickly and immediately. We do not have to wait to collect funds and then distribute them. We have the support readily available when disasters occur, allowing those in need to go and be the hands and feet of Christ. This is how we were able to jump into action quickly to help with the water crisis in Jackson.

Thank you so much for your gifts to the HEART Fund. You’re making a difference when you give.
