Created by WMU to celebrate its 100-year anniversary in 1988, the Second Century Fund (SCF) financially supports WMU women’s leadership development in the United States and internationally. Anyone who knows anything about WMU knows women’s leadership development is something they do well, and 2022 was no exception.
Here are some ways states are using their Second Century Fund grants to equip and empower women all over the country to spread the good news of Christ:
“Our WMU President, Julie Busler, has been able to travel the state to be with many churches. Her work is extremely fruitful in our state. We are thrilled about what God is doing in Oklahoma! Women are pleasantly surprised to see a young woman highly engaged in missions.” Amy Cordova, Oklahoma WMU
“A portion of our SCF grant was used for the Korean WMU conference. This was their first in-person gathering in several years. This helped supplement costs related to bringing in trainers and missions leaders who led the main session and breakouts.” Beth Ann Williams, Georgia WMU
“We used some of our SCF grant to cover travel and meal expenses for a Hispanic leader to attend the Midwest Leadership Summit in Springfield, Illinois. It is one of our efforts to reach out to Hispanic women to introduce them to and involve them in WMU.” Joni Wilkinson, Iowa WMU
“Last year, we began the process of developing a Hispanic Women’s Leadership Team. This began with a gathering of Hispanic churches in October 2021 and progressed into 2022. We were able to use a portion of the SCF grant to offer WMU training to eighteen women during our leadership training in July. This created a hunger among some of the women present that led to an age-level leadership training in November 2022. Libo Krieg has even helped us to identify three women who will lead out in assisting Hispanic Churches of Alabama in developing WMU Missions Discipleship.” Candace Mcintosh, Alabama WMU
“We used part of our SCF grant to provide WMU materials to thirteen churches that did not have WMU groups so they could start them.” Katie Loveday, New England WMU
“Some of the funds were used for our annual meeting in September. Missouri WMU leadership traveled to Montana for this meeting and presented sessions on age-level missions discipleship, WMU Compassion Ministries, and mission action project ideas. We had Heather Keller from national WMU come and lead a session for the teen girls during both days of our event. As a result, a statewide Acteens group has started that will meet via Zoom.” Tami Park, Montana WMU
