A Life Lived on Mission: Janet Craynon’s Enduring Commitment to WMU

From a young age, Janet Craynon’s life was shaped by the rhythms of faith and a heart for missions. Her commitment to WMU and its mission-focused work has only deepened over the years—rooted in family traditions, inspired by strong mentors, and carried forward through faithful giving.

“For as long as I can remember, missions has been part of my spiritual DNA,” Janet shares. “My parents set the example. They modeled daily Bible reading, prayed faithfully for missionaries, and gave sacrificially to the Lottie Moon and Annie Armstrong offerings.” That foundation grew as she engaged in GA and YWA, diving into WMU publications like Tell magazine and Window of YWA, which filled her with stories of missionaries serving around the world.

Those early seeds blossomed into a lifelong commitment to live and give missionally. Since the inception of the WMU Foundation, Janet has supported various funds and endowments that reflect her personal passion for missions. “I believe in what WMU stands for. I give because I know these funds are going toward making disciples, supporting compassion ministries, and developing strong mission-minded leaders.

Janet is especially inspired by the legacies of Lottie Moon and Annie Armstrong—two women whose courage and unwavering faith have echoed through generations. In 1987, she had the rare opportunity to retrace much of Lottie Moon’s journey across China’s Shandong Province. “It was a deeply meaningful experience,” she reflects. “These women were pioneers. Their stories remind me of what it truly means to give your life to the mission of God.”

“WMU doesn’t receive Cooperative Program funding,” she notes. “That’s why it’s so important to support the WMU Foundation. WMU continues to equip disciples of Jesus who live on mission—just like Lottie and Annie did.”

Janet’s story is a powerful reminder of the lasting impact one life can have when it’s dedicated to God’s mission. Through her faithful giving, WMU’s legacy of prayer, giving, and going continues to thrive.
