The WMU Foundation, plays a vital role in supporting Baptist missions and various related causes by managing the endowments of churches and other Christian ministries that are connected to the work of National WMU.
Disaster Relief Fund
In response to the September 11, 2001, tragedies, WMU and the WMU Foundation launched the HEART fund. This fund provides grants enabling Baptists to offer direct relief and rebuilding aid to disaster victims in the United States as well as globally.
Christian Ministry Endowments
Baptist Student Union Advancement Fund
The Baptist Student Union (BSU) Advancement Fund aids Baptist collegiate ministries on college campuses across the country and provides funding in areas where local Baptist congregations are not able to support Baptist student ministries.
Barbara Massey Endowment
Named for a long-time children’s worker at national WMU, this grant goes to Christian children’s leaders serving in international contexts.
Dalton & Judith Edwards Ethnic Leadership Development Endowment
Grants from the Edwards Endowment provide training opportunities for current and prospective ethnic leaders throughout New Mexico. This endowment honors Dalton and Judith Edwards’ years of service as NAMB missionaries in New Mexico.
Evelyn Tully Endowment for International Women’s Conferences
Grants from the Tully Endowment make it financially possible for international women to participate in Baptist conferences in their own countries. Past grant recipients include women from Moldova, Sri Lanka, Jordan, Liberia, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, and Burkina Faso, among others.
Gloria Philpot Thurman Endowment
The Gloria Philpot Thurman Endowment, named to honor the missionary who served in Bangladesh for over 30 years, supports the work of the Bangladesh Baptist Church Women’s Fellowship.
HEART Fund for Disaster Relief
Grants from the HEART (Humanitarian Emergency Aid for Rebuilding Tomorrow) Fund allow Baptists to provide direct relief and rebuilding assistance to disaster victims in the United States and around the world.
Judith Slayden and David Warren Hayes Endowment
Grants from this endowment support the work of Christian ministries that are focused on providing support to victims of human trafficking.
Kristyn Ross WMU Camp Network Endowment
Grants from this endowment support the ministry of the WMU Camp Directors Network. Funds can be used to support this ministry in a variety of ways, such as administration, leadership development resources, retreats and meetings, creation of resources, promotion and marketing efforts.
Lillian Isaacs Endowment for Literacy Missions
Grants from this endowment provide education for literacy trainers, seed money for new programs, materials for existing programs, and other expenses related to sharing Christ through literacy missions.
Missions Camping Endowment
The Missions Camping Endowment will provide scholarships for children and youth to attend overnight missions camps, provide missions training and leadership development to camp leaders, and help with expenses related to having volunteer staff at such camps, with priority given to overnight camps in areas of the country where Southern Baptist churches are less numerous.
